Aug 15, 2015 · Remington 37 serial number & date coding. I sent Old Man 58 the serial number and date coding from my 37 to add to his research. He returned an interesting note. He has two rifles on his list with serial numbers close to mine but their date codes take them both to June of 1938. Mine however is date coded to April of 1949...

Serial numbers started at 1,000. The Grade 4 pictured here is in the upper 10,000 serial range and obviously has Damascus barrels. This is the reason we call this particular gun a Grade 4 and not a Grade 3. My Dad's Remington 511 Scoremaster does not have the usual cryptic date codes. It does have a serial number stamped under the barrel, just forward of the wood stock.
