The new 16-item PSOC-R was trialled in a sample of 3056 mothers.Data were collected by the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS), the Postpartum Support Questionnaire (PSQ) and the Parenting Sense of Competence (PSOC) at 8 weeks postpartum. One-way MANOVA was used to analyse the data. Results: Data from 63 adolescent mothers and 63 adult mothers were analysed.The total scale score ranges from 17 to 102, with higher the scores indicating a higher the sense of competence and satisfaction in parenting. In the present study, Cronbach's α for the scale was 0.73.Parenting sense of competence refers to parents’ perception about their ability to perform the parenting role, one of the key dimensions in family dynamics.
