Prior to 1950 the C was actually in front of the serial number, not after it. Avoid the temptation to replace everything on your brand-new 1911 just to make it "better".So was Charles M. Heard, a popular gun expert of the day, who described it in 1960 as the "Colt 'National Match' .45 ACP, factory accurized and custom crafted for target.
