It is not a strong melee weapon since it has innate Heat element, however with proper builds, you can pretty much kill high levels of around 100+ pretty quic...Azima, Zenistar, Zenith at 100, than 2 of those weapons plus Sigma & Octanis at 300, then at 500 hopefully whatever weapon there is at 1100 a unless Syndanna and Armor set would be the next items to be mixed-in. Zenith is the best one atm, its gimmick is infinite punchthrough which is useful in some situations, but the "wallhack" is completely worthless.
Most people go for the Zenistar, although it is not actually a conventional melee weapon. Its charged attack allows it to toss its disc as a lingering AoE, useful for chip damage and proccing status (blast can stunlock!).
