The new changes to the policies seek to “ reduce the amount of on-street disruption for resident permit holders.”. These changes officially took effect on Monday, July 22nd. Many areas require a resident permit if parking for over two hours. Senior citizens over the age of 65 can apply for a senior citizen parking permit which is free. Highly recommend downloading the Parking Dude app. Will tell you exactly what the parking rules are in precisely the spot you’re in. Eventually you won’t need it, but a great reference for your first few months parking in Hoboken. The parking rules are tough but, IMO, fair and learnable. You’ll get the hang of it! There are deals for Hoboken residents who have registered their cars, but for visitors it’s still extremely expensive. Other cities in NJ are still charging $1/hr for parking garage access for visitors. As for NYC, I’ve found parking in garages for the same rates as garages in Hoboken.
