The frames are so expertly finished there's almost no chance you're going to damage the guitar in normal use. Kat-Eyz are built from round stock, so by definition there are no sharp edges there. I use a 1993 McKinney/Tony Rice (predecessor to the Elliott) and a smaller profile Kat Eyz most of the time. They keep the strings in tune, are wonderful handcrafted mechanical machines, and look marvelous - I like the low-profile. Look at Kat Eyz capos. I have one for my D18 in stainless steel. They're about $100 but I think they're as nice as the Elliott Mckinney. The owner is very nice too. I have a variety in a variety of different materials including Elliott, KatEyz, Crary, Colorado, Paige, Shubb, G7, John Pearse, Hlavaty, Paige and some other yoke-styles showing no brand name. For utility, the ones that I use the most are the KatEyz, the Colorado, and the Elliott.

I love yolk style capos but have run into the issue in the past of the radius not matching up. Saw a post on Instagram about the Paige Pro which has self adjusting inserts to accommodate any radius (genius IMO!)
Jun 5, 2022 · Kat Eyz capo. I'd never heard of Kat Eyz capos until a few months ago when I came across a thread over on the UMGF singing their praises. I've tried almost every notable capo out there with the exception of Elliotts, which I admit is a pretty major omission, but also a very expensive one and one with a long wait time.

Jul 15, 2022 · Katz Eye Capo question. I play a D-28 without a strap button on the heel (like lots of people). I use one of those half inch wide leather straps with a button on it on the headstock just beyond the nut (again, like lots or people). I use a pretty standard leather strap with the thinner, adjustable end attached to the nut strap. But they don’t like a lot of things. But polling there suggests two main camps, the hyper-expensive Elliot’s, or the very reasonable Kat Eyz. The nice thing about the Kat Eyz if you can get it custom sized to your guitar (same price), and I know some have had engravings, or whatever put on (probably a price).See more of Kat Eyz Capos on Facebook.
