If you actually want to do research and can convey that, you will match to a 2+2 without a derm research year; it is a very small applicant pool that wants to do that, truly. The point of the derm research year in all honesty is to make connections, not to learn how to conduct research. DM me if you want to speak directly, since this sounds like a detailed discussion. On the surface, you look pretty solid. Board scores and the PhD will definitely get you a respectful look at top programs, and if your LOR and activities are strong then you have a good shot at many interviews.
