What to expect the morning of the ceremony. The UNCG Doctoral and Master’s Commencement Ceremony is a formal, traditional, academic exercise. The ceremony will begin with a processional of all participants, followed by greetings and speeches from academic dignitaries, the conferring of degrees, recognition of graduates as names are called, hooding of the doctoral students, and the recessional.

The Hooding & Recognition Ceremony recognizes the accomplishments of those who have completed a PhD or Master's degree in departments and programs in Arts & Sciences. Students who have an expected graduation date on or before May 2023 are invited to participate. Registration will open in the spring of 2023.The graduate processional follows Hooding ceremony. 5:00 p.m. Post-ceremony reception on Royce Quad. Once the hooding ceremony commences, chairs, co-chairs and members of a dissertation committee should plan to stand when the candidate(s) crosses the stage to be hooded.
