The only thing different in the rotating assembly between the LQ9 and L33 will be the pistons. The L33 will have a slightly smaller bore, but they share the same stroke and I believe same length rods. Good engine for sure, I had a couple of them. LS3 will bolt up, you will different rocker arms for some of the valves. I would try it as-is with a cam and spring change. It may give you the performance you seek w/o buying heads.

As said before, no way to verify its an lq9 outside of looking at the pistons, and the rods are different as well. Ly6 is still pretty pricey, but kinda bling with the variable valve timing..
