However, unlike a true experiment, a quasi-experiment does not rely on random assignment. Instead, subjects are assigned to groups based on non-random criteria.This chapter provides a selective review of some contemporary approaches to program evaluation. Our re-view is primarily motivated by the recent emergence and increasing use of the a particular kind of "program" in applied microeconomic research, the so-called Regression Discontinuity (RD) Design of Thistlethwaite and Campbell (1960).
